Clean cookstoves deployment in rural areas of Togo
For many women in rural Togo, daily life revolves around the demanding task of gathering firewood for inefficient open fires, know as "three-stone fires". These traditional fires are harmful to health, as the constant exposure to heavy smoke leads to chronic respiratory and eye-related illnesses. Tamarin Project is changing that narrative by introducing 150,000 improved cookstoves that use a fraction of the fuel required by traditional methods. This shift does more than just mitigate forest degradation; it restores hours of productivity to women’s lives and creates a safer, smoke-free home environment. Most importantly, this is a community-driven model. The benefits extend beyond the kitchen, supporting local development through projects that are identified by the local communities themselves.
