Improved Forest Management project with communities in Mexico

Developed by Montezumae Global Consultores, a Mexican civil society organization whose purpose is to develop quality forestry carbon projects, Mariposa implements improved forest management practices across 16,000 hectares of community-owned lands in the Sierra Madre Occidental. Located in northern Mexico, this project aims at improving forest management through fire management, reforestation, and soil improvement practices. The project enhances existing forest management while building local capacity and strengthening sustainable timber value chains through the promotion of additional certifications within a sustainable framework. Held on community lands, it will enhance the livelihoods of the three impacted communities through capacity-building in forestry management practices, supporting productive systems, and implementing timber transformation infrastructures that retain economic benefits locally while preserving one of Mexico's most biodiverse mountain ranges.
